Hey Fanworkers!👋
Did you enjoy the autumn leaves last week? As soon as the fall sights wrap up, it suddenly gets cold, right? ❄️ When the weather turns chilly, warm snacks start to come to mind~~ !
Although the cold wind isn’t fully here yet, you can already find winter treats like bungeoppang, hotteok, and hoppang in the streets these days. Eating sweet snacks while warming your hands against the chilly breeze feels extra special somehow! This newsletter will introduce you to the charm of these winter snacks, their stories, and how to enjoy them.😋 |
Bungeoppang is one of Korea's classic autumn and winter snacks!
Originally, it’s a fish-shaped pastry made by pouring a thin batter and red bean filling into a mold. But it has evolved to include a variety of fillings over time!
I've seen some people have preferences for different flavors, but I’ve never met anyone who actually dislikes bungeoppang! 😂
Bungeoppang is mostly sold from trucks or mobile stalls during the winter, so it can be hard to find. Since the sales locations aren’t fixed and often aren’t marked on maps, you have to remember where your favorite spots are or wait for the bungeoppang truck to show up.🥲 Also, they often operate irregularly depending on the weather and the vendor's schedule, so there's no guarantee you'll always be able to get some, which is a bit of a bummer.
Even if you want to enjoy bungeoppang often, this inconvenience can make it feel like a kind of 'treasure hunt🎁' for many people, adding to the idea that it’s a special treat you can only enjoy in winter.
Anyway, let me introduce you to some well-known bungeoppang spots that are relatively easy to find due to their great taste and generous fillings! 🎉

1. Namyeong Station Sweet Rice Bungeoppang [남영역찹쌀잉어빵] |
🏷️ 3 for 2,000 KRW / Red BeanFamous for its generous fillings, Namyeong Station Sweet Rice Bungeoppang is a must-try! They’re known for packing in so much red bean paste that the batter becomes almost transparent! 😍 Because of the hearty portions, there’s often a line of people waiting in front of the shop, so they’ve set a limit on how many you can buy—up to 6
! A big plus is that this shop operates from a storefront, not a truck, so you don’t have to hunt down a food truck for your bungeoppang fix! They’re closed on Sundays and open daily at 7:15 AM, closing around 7 PM, so make sure to visit during those hours. They say the best time to go when it’s less crowded is around 9:30 AM.
💡Oh, and just a heads-up! While there’s a slight difference in the flour batter between bungeoppang and sweet rice bungeoppang, for most people, it doesn’t really make much of a difference! 😂 Can we just call them all bungeoppang to keep it simple? Hehe!

2. Mangwon Market Sweet Potato Bungeoppang
[망원시장 고구마 붕어빵] |
When the weather gets cold, one of the iconic snacks that comes to mind in Korea is roasted sweet potatoes! 🍠 And guess what? They’ve turned that beloved sweet potato into bungeoppang! Hehe! It seems like most Koreans really love anything related to sweet potatoes. The sweet potato bungeoppang from Mangwon Market isn’t overloaded with fillings, but the sweet potato mousse is so sweet that it’s just the right amount! Plus, the purple batter reminds you of purple sweet potatoes, making the experience of eating bungeoppang even more enjoyable. It really feels like you’re eating sweet potatoes! If you’re looking for a sweet and soft bungeoppang, I highly recommend the sweet potato version! 😋 |
3. Hyochang Park HyoGong Bungeoppang [효창공원 효공잉어빵] |
🏷️ 3 for 2,000 KRW / Red Bean, Cream, Choco Cream, Maekomi
Known as the classic bungeoppang, HyoGong Bungeoppang features a perfectly balanced sweet red bean filling in a delicious dough. 😋 But the real star here is their signature flavor— Maekomi! This special menu item includes spicy fried kimchi as the filling, giving it a delightful sweet and spicy twist.🌶️✨ People who are curious about the taste often order just one, only to regret not getting more, saying, "Ah! I should have bought more😂!" It’s that tempting! When you start to feel a bit tired of sweet bungeoppang, just one bite of the Maekomi version will make you feel like you’re starting fresh again. The kick of the Maekomi flavor is something you definitely don’t want to miss, so all you fanworkers heading there should be sure to order the Maekomi flavor! |
Hoppang is a steamed bun made by putting red bean paste or vegetables inside a flour dough and cooking it in a steamer. You can find it on the streets, but when the weather gets cold, many convenience stores in Korea have hoppang machines that steam them right there for sale. So, I highly recommend stopping by a nearby convenience store! 🌟 |
The most standard fillings for hoppang are red bean and vegetables, but these days, pizza hoppang has become quite popular too! 🍕 Would you like to check out some other varieties of hoppang with different flavors? 🕶️ |
▫️TarakMilk Hoppang (Left)
Inspired by the royal dish tarak (milk) porridge and hongban (rice made with red bean water), this hoppang features a subtle red bean color thanks to the red bean water. It’s completed with a milk-based rice custard cream for a nutty flavor! 🥛✨
▫️Makjeokgui Hoppang (Right)
Makjeokgui refers to meat that is marinated and grilled over charcoal. This hoppang is packed with various vegetables and meat mixed with doenjang (soybean paste) and ssamjang (dipping sauce). 🍖🔥 |
▫️ Choco-Banana Hoppang
With a soft banana flavor filling your mouth, this hoppang combines chocolate for double the sweetness! 🍌🍫
▫️Scrambled Egg Hoppang
This hoppang features soft scrambled eggs along with onions and carrots for a delightful texture. The egg custard and mayonnaise sauce add a touch of richness! 🍳🥕 |
▫️Spicy Pork Belly Hoppang
Filled with spicy pork belly based on gochujang (red chili paste) and packed with spicy Cheongyang peppers, this hoppang has a delightful smoky aroma! 🌶️🔥
▫️Spicy Kimchi Hoppang
Experience the full flavor of well-fermented kimchi in this spicy hoppang. With the addition of radish, it offers a chewy texture that true Koreans will love! 🥬❤️
▫️Honey Sweet Potato Hoppang
A must-try for sweet potato lovers! This hoppang uses domestic honey to create a deep sweetness, giving you the feeling of enjoying a luxurious dessert. 🍠🍯
In addition, there have been all sorts of hoppang released, like cheese hoppang, soy milk hoppang, spicy buldak hoppang, Hershey's chocolate hoppang, seed hotteok hoppang, and pumpkin cream cheese hoppang, but unfortunately, they’re not available anymore! Since hoppang is a snack that enjoys booming sales in winter, it seems they release limited editions every year by combining popular foods into new hoppang flavors. Hoppang itself doesn’t feel much different from regular bread, so it pairs well with any filling, kind of like a sandwich! 🤗 Don’t you think a teriyaki hoppang made with rich teriyaki sauce and chicken would be delicious? Someone should really develop that menu! 🙏 |
Hotteok is a sweet, filled Korean pancake that’s especially popular in the winter! 🍯 It’s usually stuffed with a delicious mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts, then pan-fried until golden brown and crispy on the outside while remaining soft and gooey on the inside. When you take a bite of the chewy dough, the warm syrup flows out and instantly makes you happy! 😍 It's not just a light syrup; it has a slightly thick consistency with sugar granules and nuts that give it a delightful crunch, so you can enjoy every bite without getting tired of it. Hotteok, like bungeoppang, is sold at street stalls and trucks, but you can also find many shops that sell it. It’s definitely easier to come across than bungeoppang! |
This is one of Korea's representative hotteok chain stores! They offer everything from the classic chewy Seoul hotteok to the adorable heart-shaped love hotteok.🩷
But it’s not just the basic hotteok; they also have unique flavors like mugwort hotteok, cream cheese hotteok, red bean hotteok, and japchae hotteok, all made with ingredients that Koreans love! With so many locations, if you’re craving hotteok, be sure to visit Seoul Hotteok! 😊🍯 |
2. Hoonhoon Hotteok [훈훈호떡] |
Located in Mangwon Market, Hoonhoon Hotteok is famous for offering unique hotteok flavors that go beyond the original taste. Especially when they launched their cheese seasoning hotteok, it garnered a ton of attention on social media! 🧀✨ The sweet and savory cheese seasoning pairs perfectly with the chewy texture of the hotteok, making it a beloved choice. Not only that, but they also have unique options like Oreo hotteok and injeolmi hotteok, which are popular among the younger generation thanks to their distinctive visuals. Being located in the market, it’s a favorite spot for tourists as well! 🥰 |
Ayheya Seoul is a café that specializes in hotteok baked in an oven instead of deep-fried! Thanks to this method, their hotteok has a lighter taste compared to others. Here, you can find not only the original hotteok but also unique flavors that you can only taste at this café. The Mammoth Hotteok, made with buttery crumble and chewy bread dough, has a much chewier appeal compared to other mammoth breads. ✨ The Mungyeong Apple Crumble Hotteok features stewed Mungyeong apples topped generously with a crumble made from natural butter, creating an apple crumble hotteok version.🍎 You can also enjoy the Corn Cheese Potato Hotteok, packed with corn cheese and potatoes, and the Pizza Hotteok, which blends traditional Margherita style with hotteok. Plus, there’s the universally loved Ice Cream Hotteok! 🍦 If you want to enjoy hotteok in a more special way, be sure to visit Ayheya Seoul! |
What do you think? When you read about bungeoppang, don’t you feel like eating it? And when you read about hoppang, you want that too, and the same goes for hotteok! 😋 Personally, I think these snacks taste even better when you randomly encounter a truck and buy them without having to wait, enjoying them on the street while feeling the chilly breeze.🌬️ It feels like the most authentic way to enjoy them, right? I also recommend that fans keep about 2,000 won in cash handy to grab street snacks without missing out!⚠️
If the response is good, I’ll come back with Part 2 of snack recommendations! 🎉 |

Do you often listen to classical music?🎵
If you're interested but find it a bit difficult to approach, how about SM Classics?
SM Classics is a project aimed at providing a new musical experience by reinterpreting songs from SM Entertainment artists in a classical style. Through collaboration with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, they arrange K-pop songs for a classical orchestra, expressing the original melodies and emotions in a more grand and delicate way, giving them a unique sound. 🎻✨ SM Classics not only offers classic versions of each song but also releases music videos to visually enhance the experience. These videos focus on scenes of the orchestra performing, showcasing a blend of classical ambiance and the individuality of K-pop songs. Thanks to the music videos, audiences can visually experience the emotions of the reinterpreted music, allowing them to enjoy the meeting of K-pop and classical in a more vivid way. Now, let me introduce a few selected tracks to the fans! 🎶 |

Into the new world (다시만난세계) - SNSD(소녀시대) |
It's hard to choose a representative song from Girls' Generation because all their songs are masterpieces, but among them, their debut song "Into the New World✨" has received particularly much love over time due to the overwhelming emotions it evokes. Experience the new depth this song brings when combined with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. In the music video, the moment it transitions from the "Pomp and Circumstance March" into "Into the New World" will send chills down your spine. The video also shows clips from Girls' Generation's debut in 2007 to their current selves, which makes fans feel even more emotional.💖⚡️ |
🙋♀️I was moved by seeing Girls’ Generation from 2007 until now, the actors’ performances, and the beautiful sounds of Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra…. Once again, I felt the deep emotions that music can bring. 😭😭😭😭
🙋When the majestic march came out and we crossed to the new world… I got goosebumps. The Seoul City Orchestra was so so amazing. ㅠㅠㅠ As a Pink Blood (SM Fandom) and a classical music major, I really liked the collaboration between SM and classical music. I felt touched when Girls’ Generation appeared here and there. SM Classics are really the best, it’s so so good. Please release a real album SM Classics💗
🙋♂️When we talk about an orchestra, we often then about string instruments but it seems like various wind instruments was arranged during the performance, so it was very fascinating. As someone who is not familiar with orchestra, I was able to realize the different tones of wind instruments. I was really surprised because it really sounded like a human voice. SM and Seoul City Orchestra is really cool. |

Supernova in Jazz?
When you think of aespa, the first image that comes to mind is their intensity, right? Their unique solid vocals, often referred to as "iron taste" among fans, combined with addictive rhythms are truly captivating. Being at the center of the SMP genre, aespa's music showcases a distinctive color.⛓️ In particular, "Supernova" is one of the SMP genre songs that exudes strong energy, and now it has been reborn with a new feel through jazz! 🎷✨ The combination of bass, drums, and piano creates a sound that is both distinct and harmonious, offering a mystical and exhilarating experience that makes you wonder, "Is this really the same song?" You'll feel chills running down your spine as you listen! |
🙇♀️It’s more enjoyable to listen to because it’s not just following the melody, but it’s real jazz.. ㄴ yes, its not just a rough imitation. This is like the original version.
🙇♂️As a jazz fan, I am grateful that a famous agency created a jazz version of a hit song and even created an in-house jazz artist group. I hope jazz is exposed to the public in many forms. |

Feel My Rhythm - RedVelvet |
The most beloved song from SM Classics is definitely Red Velvet's "Feel My Rhythm"! 🎶 This song samples Bach's "Air on the G String," and it beautifully combines with an elegant ballerina concept, creating a sophisticated and delicate atmosphere that has garnered much love.☁️🩷 Especially, "Feel My Rhythm" goes beyond just being a song that samples classical music; it represents a natural fusion of classical and K-pop, which is highly significant. When this song is reinterpreted in a classical style, it transforms from the calm essence of the original "Air on the G String" into a bright, fairy-tale-like vibe, offering a warmth that evokes nostalgic childhood memories for the listeners. |
🙆♀️Another good thing is that all the students appearing here are not child actors , but actual students majoring in classical music. In particular, the main character, Lee Jae-ri, entered Yewon School as the top student and won first place in the Donga concour and 이자이internarional concour competition, etc…. SM has great taste.
🙆Wow… if you arrange it like this, it sounds like a Disney theme song… It feels like the characters are running around in a fantasy world right now; the world of songs from classical to K-pop to classical. It is really fascinating and amazing.
🙆♂️The Seoul City Orchestra’s performance is truly a delight to the ears. But the fact that they were able to arrange it like this shows that ‘Feel My Rhythm’ was definitely not a song written lightly. SM is truly an artist.. |
The SM Classics project seems to be a significant step in expanding the genre diversity of the Korean music industry through the combination of K-pop and classical music. By harmoniously blending the popularity of K-pop with the profound artistry of classical music, it creates new styles and sounds that have not been attempted in the existing music market.🤝 This allows pop music fans to easily access the new musical world of classical music, while classical enthusiasts get to experience the vibrant sensations of K-pop. Additionally, this project will pave the way for more musical experimentation in the K-pop industry and help it grow into a globally competitive sector by incorporating new genre colors.🌈
Next year, there’s also a classical concert planned in collaboration with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, so fans who want to enjoy K-pop in a unique way should keep an eye out! 🎻✨

A pride of Songdo, Incheon—Jinjin China, mentioned by Songdo’s TBZ members Young-hoon and Hyun-jae! |
🐰: I ordered the beef brisket jjambbong, seafood jajangmyeon, and sweet and sour pork, and they were all so delicious! I went there because it’s known as a jjambbong restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the other dishes were too. 👍Although it’s a bit far, I have no regrets about going. If I go back to Songdo, I definitely want to visit again. I also heard the guobaorou is delicious, so I’ll have to give that a try! |

I visited DaebongJip, the restaurant where SEVENTEEN filmed "IseulLIVE," and it really touched the fans' hearts! |
🥭 : DaeBong Jip is known for its frozen pork belly.🐽 The frozen pork belly itself is delicious, and grilling it with the accompanying kimchi and bean sprouts made it even tastier. When I started to feel a bit full from the meat, wrapping some tangy squid salad in it was also delightful. The side dishes are all composed of items that Koreans love, so they perfectly complement the meat and help fill you up.🆙 |
37, Changsin 12-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul |
This is Chang Chang, a Chinese restaurant that SEVENTEEN’s Jun posted about on Instagram! Jun is also famous for being a connoisseur of great Chinese restaurants in Korea. 👀 |
🦋 : I have a little story about this place...🫠 I was planning to go there, but it was snowing heavily, so I thought, "I'll go next time." A few days later, I went, and then I saw Jun post about it on Instagram‼️ In the background of his photo, it was the same snowy day I had planned to go!!! I should have just gone despite the snow! 😭 If I had, I could have had a great experience. The food was of course delicious, and the atmosphere was nice, so if you’re in the area, definitely give it a try! |
